Finding A Niche

I am sure you have heard the term 'Niche' by now if you have been thinking about getting involved in any kind of internet marketing at all.

But what is a niche and how important is it?

Plain and simply a niche is a subject/topic or product that is very specific and of relevance only to people who actually search for it, let me give you an example:

Dog - is a general category
Labrador - is a little more specific
Chocolate Brown Labrador - would be considered a niche

Can you see how that works?

Now as for how important a niche is think again about the above, how many people do you think search for dog or dogs on the internet, well out of interest I have just typed that into my google search engine and it gave up 326,000,000 pages for that term that is a lot of competition.

Now for the term Chocolate Brown Labrador, how many results does that return; 436,000.

So you can see the difference, the more specific your niche the less competition and the more likely you are to gain traffic to the site and as a result make money.

The next problem we have is identifying specific niches to market to especially when we are just starting out.

It is very easy to think I'll go for the products that are at the top of the list on clickbank because they obviously make money and you would be right they do make money, however they are also being promoted by all the top marketers and that makes competition even stiffer.

Why not try to think of things that you are interested in hobbies, sports etc and then try to see if you can find something even more specific and targeted?

There is a piece of software that I have been told about and am about to purchase myself that will help you to identify sure targeted niches.

The product is called Micro Niche Finder and it will allow you to enter a search term for example dog, that will provide you with details of all the other pages on google that return that search term, it will also suggest other more targeted terms for you and also show you how many searches are conducted on that term.

This product allows you to identify and then exploit any number of extremely niched search terms that you can market to with little or no competition and with little or no expense.

My friends who put me onto this have told me that they use it as a way of ensuring that they use targeted search terms that allow them to market their chosen products without having to pay top whack for the most popular terms and phrases on PPC (yes they use it in a slightly different way, to save themselves money and allow them to dominate).

If you are serious about being successful then this is worth a look, like I have said I am in the process of purchasing this myself as I don't want to held at a disadvantage.

Internet Marketing Generally

Internet Marketing and in particular Affiliate Marketing is becoming a very popular form of making money, especially in these times of global recession.

However, it is not as easy as it is often made to seem by the experts that promote to us all so professionally.

The easiest way to become involved in the industry is to begin to market affiliate products, this is where I am starting and yes I did say starting.

I am not an expert by any stretch of the imagination and have started this blog with the aim of recording my own progress in the hope that it might help others along the way.

It may be that I am fortunate enough to have contact with several people who are heavily involved and very successful in their own right in the Internet Marketing arena, I hope therefore to be able to pass on some of the tips that they are passing on to me.

Some of these tips are in the form of advice about what to do and others will be reference to products and software that they use and find invaluable in their own businesses.

Please do post comments and advice of your own, together we can help each other to succeed.
